About Role

Greenhouse Technician - Kensington  

c32 Hours per week

 

A fantastic opportunity is now available for a Greenhouse Technician in South West London to be responsible for the management of a well know Nursery as a contract resource, driving forward growing operations to ensure that the glasshouses and surrounding yard are used to their full capacity and maintained to the highest possible standards. As a Greenhouse Technician you will ensure that the greenhouse and surrounding yard are as clean, safe and presentable as possible.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the day to day running of the nursery with an aim to achieve maximum operational capacity in terms of production of plants for the contract.
  • Ensuring that the glasshouses are operating efficiently.
  • Ensuring that the yard area is safe, tidy and well organised.
  • Monitor the day-to-day workings of the section and its individuals having regard to health and safety to ensure all necessary and appropriate standards have been implemented and are operating in accordance with the company Health and Safety Policy.
  • Work with the Head Gardeners and Contract Manager to establish annual bedding schemes, and medium and long-term plant requirements and work to produce these at the glasshouses.
  • Record and maintain growing schedules for planting schemes.
  • Propagate interesting and unusual plants for use in the client’s parks and open spaces.
  • Supervise gardeners and apprentices working in the nursery, as required, and provide guidance on glasshouse management, including health and safety and propagation.   

Key Performance Indicators

 

Customer relations: Timely reaction to all reports in connection with site visits and client meetings in line with laid down protocols.

Labour management: Accurate and timely submission of paperwork to line management.

Job administration: Prompt daily submission of all job tickets generated within area of responsibility.

Health & Safety administration: Immediate reporting of accidents and other safety incidents in line with laid down protocols. To help us reduce the number of accidents on the contract and make it a safer place to work.

ISO accreditation: Help ensure that the client retain ISO14001 and ISO9001 Accreditations. Ensuring that all paperwork is up to date. All COSHH records are in place and that the workplace is clean, tidy and well organised.
