About Role

General Manager – Busy Golf Venue Essex

I am seeking a very commercial and member focused General Manager to drive this fantastic Golf Club forward. A dynamic, results driven leader is needed with a passion for developing sales opportunities and growing revenue lines.

This club is a high volume pay and play facility with a solid event and function side to the business therefore a background in a similar environment is essential.


Key Responsibilities:


  • To achieve/exceed the key financial targets for Green Fee income, golf day sales, golf memberships, function forward bookings and food and beverage.
  • Implement and monitor all financial controls and take responsibility for all cash handling.
  • Be responsible for the preparation and implementation of business plans, financial budgets, marketing plans and CAPEX schedules to grow the operating profit of the business unit.
  • Produce weekly/monthly figures and operational reports on time.
  • Provide innovative and proactive marketing to communicate and promote the services provided by the Club to members, guests and visitors.
  • Recruit, manage, motivate and develop staff.
  • Hold weekly meetings with Heads of Department and their employees where appropriate. 
  • Deliver maintenance and cleanliness standards that meet or exceed Group standards.
  • Deliver the correct implementation of all Company Health & Safety Policy and all other statutory requirements.
  • Take full responsibility for the security of the site and act as the main point of contact for any third-party security agents.
  • Any other duties that may be required by the Senior Management Team.

Ideally you will have a background that involves extensive man-management, financial accountability, service delivery and above all a keen commercial edge. You must be a passionate hands on manager with a proven track record in delivery of business objectives. You should be comfortable in working in what is undoubtedly a high-pressured environment; in light of this a background working in a highly competitive industry would be preferred.

For this role you will be required to manage all day to day aspects of a golf and leisure operation including, course management, retail, catering and leisure facilities. It is essential you have an excellent understanding of Golf operations if you are not currently working in the sector.

Salary to 35k plus bonus and benefits
